A medium to large tree, growing slowly to 20 25m, sometimes 35m. Noted for longevity and large girth to its trunk (up to 4m). Bark peels off in papery flakes. Sharp dull green needles are stiff and leathery. Often found on regenerating farmland as the spiny needles are not favoured by livestock. [2505]
